The Temporalists

The Temporalists are a modern piano trio that aims to create, perform, and explore the evocative music of bandleader Stefan Kijek.  The music is heavily visual, combining storytelling elements reminiscent of classical and folk music with the improvisation and tonality of jazz.

Stefan Kijek is a versatile and accomplished musician based in Edmonton, Alberta.  His love of jazz culminates several influences from his upbringing- especially classical and folk music- but time has shown his style to be sensitive, courageous, and improvisatory at its core.  Stefan’s inaugural album, entitled “Overgrowth”, was released in 2023 through his piano trio, The Temporalists.

Murray Wood

Murray Wood is an accomplished and diverse bassist from Edmonton, Alberta. Since completing the McGill jazz program, Murray has been touring constantly throughout Canada, USA, Europe and Australia. Murray is a full time member of indie-rock group Scenic Route to Alaska, but also records and performs with Major Love, 100 Mile House, Mallory Chipman, Lyra Brown and many other artists. He has been fortunate to have performed at many of Canada’s jazz, folk and rock festivals, as well as many of the world’s premier showcase festivals including SXSW (Austin), Reeperbahn (Hamburg) and Australian Music Week (Sydney).

Jamie Cooper

Jamie Cooper lent his talents to the Temporalists until 2023, culminating with his stellar performance "Overgrowth". Jamie has performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Edmonton Jazz Orchestra, the Yardbird Suite Jazz orchestra and the Yardbird Suite All-stars. He has also shared the stage with Juno award winners P.J. Perry and the late Tommy Banks, late vibraphonist Peter Appleyard, vocalist Sheila Jordan, Dan Aykroyd and multi Grammy winning artist Maria Schneider, just to name a few. An in demand session drummer, having played on dozens of albums, he is currently involved in a number of projects, such as Juno nominated Kent Sangster's Obsessions Octet (whom Jamie performed with at Carnegie hall), Western Canadian Music award nominated band The Writers Guild.
